In February 2016, the Cabinet of the Government of Bangladesh reportedly approved the Citizenship Bill 2016 (the “Bill”), in order to “enact provisions on Bangladesh Citizenship and Relevant Matters”. Apparently, no public consultations regarding the content of the law was organized by the government prior to its being placed before the Cabinet.

The purpose of this paper is to convey the following four recommendations from the Urdu-speaking community to the policy makers of Bangladesh with the intent to protect all Bangladeshis from being at risk of statelessness.
